Turbo Talk No.1

  • Turbo Haus 5011 Rue Notre Dame Ouest Montréal, QC, H4C 1T2 Canada (map)

It’s January, you’re an “artist,” and your wallet is looking thinner than ever. Why not deliver yourself to Turbo Haus for three 30-minute, creative, technical and potentially lucrative pep talks and info sessions by semi-successful locals? This is Turbo Talk No. 1. Free for NBCA members, $5 for non-members. Doors at 6:30 PM, talks at 7-9 PM, and it’s at 5011 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest.

MIKE NIRO (Trigger Effect, Turbo Haus, Financial Guru) is often a shirtless drummer but always the accountant to some of Montreal’s brightest stars and hardest working deadbeats. He’s talking about taxes, grants, being on top of your finances in the arts as well as finding a balance in your work and creative life.

OLIVIA MEW (Stay Home Club, www.stayhomeclub.com) is the inventor of the incredibly successful Stay Home Club brand, and she’d like to talk about being the world’s laziest workaholic. We’re sure she’ll mention things about running Quebec’s busiest DIY web store, too.

RAYMOND BIESINGER (Illustrator, etc., www.fifteen.ca) is a world-published illustrator and he’s wanting to tell you absolutely everything about running and promoting an illustration studio that works for things like the New Yorker, Le Monde, Lucky Peach, Monocle, Dwell, etc.

What are Turbo Talks you ask? They are a monthly series of conversations with artists, creatives and artistic allies from all disciplines talking about money, pitfalls, overcoming obstacles, sticking it out, believing in yourself even when you don't know where the next meal is coming from, and ultimately having all the fun. The Turbo Talks will be happening on the last Sunday of every month from here on in at the Turbo Haus.
